From later October – November Melbourne comes to life with events, fashions on the fields, and race days. The sun is shining, the champagne is flowing, and it’s the perfect time to be a social butterfly and catch up with friends. Really it’s not surprise that it’s one of our favourite times of year here at The Sebel Moonee Ponds.
Whether you’re a Melbourne local looking for a weekend away from the kids, or an interstate traveller wanting to experience the hustle and bustle of Melbourne’s Spring racing carnival, we’ve put together a quick itinerary to help you make the most of your spring racing weekend getaway.

Check in for your weekend away
Here at The Sebel Moonee Ponds we’re located just a quick 15km from Tullamarine Airport and Melbourne’s CBD, and even quicker 10 mins drive to Flemington and Moonee Valley Racecourses, making us the perfect location for your spring getaway.
If you’re booking in with a few friends you can’t go past our two-bedroom apartment which features a king bed and two singles, living room, kitchenette, laundry, your own private balcony, smart TV, and WiFi.

Stretch away the stress
While going for a workout might not sounds like the perfect weekend away activity – just hear us out! As well as our onsite fitness centre, the team at Studio 3 offers a range of yoga classes, which will help you stretch out any stress or achy knots and can help you truly feel the Zen before your big weekend. And if you’re up for trying something new with your friends they also offer speciality hot yoga, aerial yoga, reformer pilates, and barre.

Head out for a dinner
Once you’ve relaxed and settled into a mini holiday mood it’s time to head out and explore some of Moonee Pond’s amazing restaurants ... and kicking off with our very own Saros Bar + Dining! With a European menu favouring a wine and tapas concept and stunning NYC style interior, it's the perfect place to enjoy a delicious cocktail and share plates. Other local options include classic Italian favourites and wood fired pizza you can’t go past Penny Young, or for Lebanese fare and mezze share plates make sure to head to the popular Bekka Restaurant. And don’t forget Chiba Japanese restaurant where you’ll find the city’s best market fresh sashimi.

Start the day with breakfast
After a blissful night’s sleep, you’ll want to start you day with an a la carte breakfast at our own Saros Bar + Dining - check out the breakfast menu here. With a New York style atmosphere, you can’t go past the House Tea Smoked Salmon Croque-Madame which features tea smoked salmon and truffle bechamel on toasted brioche, gratin with gruyere and parmesan cheese, served with cress and pickle salad.

Giddy up at the racetrack
Time to dust off that fascinator and get dressed up! Both Flemington and Moonee Valley Racecourses are only a quick drive away. Head to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup Carnival (Oct-Nov), which includes the AAMI Victoria Derby Day, the Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Kennedy Oaks Day, and the Seppelt Wines Stakes Day. Or head to the Moonee Valley Racing Club for the legendary Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival (Oct 23-34).
